Thello is a young rail company offering direct links between France and Italy at affordable prices.

Since 2011, Thello has offered an alternative rail transport service in France. Whether you are traveling on business, or taking a trip with friends or family, Thello trains offer new, practical and economical travel solutions for direct links between France and Italy. Since 2016, Thello has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trenitalia, the historic Italian operator.

The company is positioning itself as a genuine alternative to air or road transport. It is aiming at every type of traveller, from budget-conscious passengers to those wishing to travel in comfort, or families looking for a practical solution.

Thello is the ideal partner for travel between France and Italy.

Thello, 10 years of circulation between France and Italy

  • In 2011, Thello started a night train between Paris and Venice, with a daily round- trip. The line connects Paris and Dijon every day to the main cities of northern Italy.
  • In 2014, Thello inaugurated a new international day train between Marseille, Nice, Genoa and Milan, with 3 daily round-trips.

The adventure for these 2 lines ends on July 1, 2021. More than 27 destinations between France and Italy have been connected.

Thello’s head office and its centre of operations are located in Paris.

Thello is an open-access operator and therefore takes full commercial risk. The company obtained its safety certificate on the French network in 2011.

While Thello works towards end-to-end control of its production, the traction of its trains in Switzerland and Italy operates through partnerships with CFF and Trenitalia.
